Owner of The Grasshopper micropub, Angela Frith, has submitted plans to Sefton Council in hopes of extending the micropub, which is located at 70B on Sandon Road in Southport.
Since the micropubs opening, the adjoining building at 70A, which was formerly set up as a retail store, has now become available which could allow for a little extra room in The Grasshopper, if all goes to plan.
The application says: “Since being granted permission in July for 70 Sandon Road, the adjoining unit at 70A Sandon Road has been vacated. The applicants would therefore like to expand the Grasshopper micropub into this small unit which will provide seating for approximately 12 or so people. No 70A also has the benefit of being fitted with a disabled WC.
“At present, the seated area to No 70 is very small and offers little space to clients. The main purpose therefore is to give existing customers more leg room while also improving facilities for disabled customers to ensure the venue is welcoming to all regular visitors.
“During the periods when the micro-pub has limited custom the applicants would like to use 70A as a function room where local groups with shared interests can enjoy a drink in a friendly atmosphere.
“Such groups would include local history groups, book clubs, and so on – providing a small community meeting place of the kind which has been lost in recent years.”
Angela also hopes to expand outdoors by introducing a small seating area at the front of the micropub, which is included in the planning application, requesting permission to have six tables available in fair weather conditions.
Along with the expansion of the micropub, The Grasshopper is currently open from 4pm-9:30pm on weekdays and 12-9:30pm on weekends but would like to extend these hours, which would see the pub open from 11am-10:30pm from Monday to Saturday and from 11am-10pm on Sundays.
