Newcastle’s first micropub, The Split Chimp, recently moved from Arch 11 on Forth Street, moving around the corner to Arch 7 as a bigger premises was needed.

Ross Holland, from Box Social Brewing now hopes to grace Newcastle with it’s second micropub. He currently runs the brewery with his father, running a tasting room along with selling their ales throughout the UK but would like to expand and own their own micropub.

Ross said: “We have been looking at opening a micropub for a while now – we’ve just been waiting on premises.

“I’ve always wanted to go into that side of things, and it’s also about keeping things small, just as we do in Newburn with the six-barrel brewery, and that’s why we’ve gone for Arch 11.

“Network Rail are keen for us to get in, so hopefully we’ll get in before Christmas.

“We’ll have one full-time manager and two part-time members of staff too. It will be good to get into an area that’s up and coming.”

Mr.Holland is currently waiting for the license application to be approved by Newcastle City Council
