Peter Milner originally applied permission to convert a vacant pet store, located at unit 6, 14 The Wynd, in Marske, to ‘Biggles’ micropub. After discovering the building wasn’t big enough for his needs, after the permission was granted.

Mr.Milner applied for a different location to open the micropub, at 82 High Street, which is currently a vacant discount mobility centre.

Redcar and Cleveland Council recently rejected the proposal after receiving 12 objection letters, along with a 61 signature petition, with concerns over noise, anti-social behaviour and parking.

Biggles did however receive some support from locals, with 16 letters being sent to the Council informing them that the new pub would be good for the village.

While councillors were recommended to approve the change of use, this was voted against as they believe the pub would “create conditions prejudicial to the amenity of the occupiers of those residential properties by reason of noise, general disturbance.”

This is not the end of the road for the Marske micropub, Peter hopes to appeal the decision with the committee and hopefully convert the vacant building soon.
