Banker Michael Wren – farther of two, gave up his job in the city in order to open Eltham’s first micropub ‘The Long Pond’ after having an epiphany.

The idea began after Michael’s parents moved to Tankerton and experienced the local micropub ‘The Tankerton Arms’.

He said: “My dad told me about the micro pub and he said you have got to come and see it, you will love it.

“I hadn’t been to one before.

“What I found when I went in there, it just blew me away.

“Within seconds I was laughing. It was the most friendly place I have been in.”

He added: “I said ‘I have got to do this’.

“For the first time in my life I had an ambition. It was like an epiphany.”

Michael took over an old plumbing merchants and began to transform it into ‘The Long Pond’ in September of 2014 and had the micropub up & running by December 12th.

Visitors so far have not been disappointed when visiting the micropub, with outstanding reviews, major excitement and a fan base that is quickly growing, the micro pub is certainly leaving it’s mark on social media.

The Long Pond provides a range of snacks such as pork pies and variety of ales from micro brewers, predominantly from Kent. Michael said: “It’s somewhere for local people to walk up to and meet friends and see people. It is not a place to go and get drunk, it’s a place to go and talk with friends and have a laugh.”
