The award-winning micro pub, The Railway Arms, located at platform one at Downham train station has closed it’s doors to punters for the final time this week, due to a proposed rent increase in which the owners felt would adversely affect the viability of the business.

The micro pub won multiple awards, winning a regional CAMRA award just a few months ago.

With the doors now shut, all that remains is a statement that says: “The Railway Arms and Fenland Express are closed. Further to a proposed rent increase, which we regard as excessive and which in our view would adversely affect the viability of the business, we have reluctantly taken the decision to cease trading with immediate effect.

“We wish to thank all of our customers and staff (past and present) for their loyalty and support over the past seven years.”

We wish the owners of The Railway Arms all the best in any future ventures.
