John Fox, current landlord of The Barley Mow in Tandridge Lane, Oxted, submitted an application to the Mid Sussex District Council for planning permission on a new micropub venture.

John’s proposal is to convert the former printer & ink store at 51 Railway Approach into a new micropub with a traditional feel, with wooden decor and high tables for patrons to stand and enjoy their ale without any distractions such as loud music or fruit machines. The landlord hopes to attract fans of locally brewed ales, as he has been in contact with 14 different local micro breweries that have all shown interest in showcasing their ale at the new micropub.

If the planning permission is granted, John plans to have the micropub open with traditional pub hours, offering coffee and croissants from 8am.

He said : “I’ve been a publican for 27 years. A micro pub is relatively low cost to set up which means if it succeeds we won’t have to work up to 90 hours a week to make a living.”
