Stephen Allen recently sent a planning application to Canterbury City Council requesting permission to convert the South Drum Tower of the Westgate Towers into a micro pub. The small section has been used for general storage for decades but stephen, who currently co-owns ‘The Pound’ bar in Westgate Towers, would like to open up this part of the building to the public.

The micropub will be called ‘The Comms Room’, as the room was formerly used as a communications post in World War II. The room will have enough space to seat roughly 10 people and none of the original details will be removed if approved.

The Pound bar has proven to be a huge success since opening in 2014, the small, quirky micro pub could follow suit if the planning application is successful.
